What is behavioral activation?
Behavioral activation is a therapeutic technique that improves mood by scheduling and engaging in meaningful activities. Action breaks cycles of inactivity and withdrawal, which are common in anxiety and depression. Action actually precedes motivation. To get on a roll, you have to DO something. Consider this illustration: A rock doesn’t just roll. Something applies force to it and then it rolls.
Action creates a sense of pleasure or accomplishment, both of which are positive emotions upon which we can build. Action also builds functioning and confidence upon which we can also build. By intentionally choosing and scheduling meaningful activities, a person reconnects with a fulfilling life. The benefits from doing so reinforce the person to continue to engage in these activities. This begins a cycle of growth, confidence, happiness, and peace.
What actions does Jehovah love?
We know that Jehovah loves our spiritual activities in promotion and defense of His name. He has organized a worldwide Brotherhood to support us in such activities as attending well-prepared Meetings, preaching and teaching the Good News of God’s Kingdom, caring for our congregations, enjoying wholesome recreation with the Friends, and showing honor to Jehovah in all we do.
What benefits does Action bring?
Once again, we thank Jehovah that we are wonderfully made. Are we made to sit in isolation? No!
Our bodies and minds are built to be active. To fully care for the bodies that Jehovah blessed us with, we must keep active and healthy in gratitude and praise of this wonderful gift.
Physical activity in particular benefits our mood, increases our energy levels, and also boosts strength, balance and mobility to reduce risk of falls and chronic health conditions,
Find key scriptures to remind yourself of the benefits of activity. Study them and ponder them wile doing an activity, such as walking, kayaking, or shooting baskets.
SUMMARY: Action benefits us. Jehovah knows what is best for us because he created us. In order to remain healthy, our bodies and minds are meant to stay active as long as and as much as we are able. Be grateful and use these gifts to honor Jehovah. You will feel the benefits in your heart, mind, body and soul.
